Known as the lungs of the Earth, the Amazon rainforest covers 7.5 million square kilometers, most of which is in Brazil (60% of the forest area).
The unique tropical rainforest climate here provides a high quality environment for the growth of trees. The wood quality is excellent and the processing performance is excellent, which is recognized as the best quality material in the world.
The raw materials for BERNECK® products are carefully selected from seeding, planting and harvesting to final processing.
Material cost control is an important part of BERNECK® and is not controlled by the market dynamics of raw material supply.
Not only that, but it also means that we have:
Prices that are not subject to market fluctuations
Excellent product quality
Material sustainability
BERNECK®PLANTAR
More than 3.5 million trees are planted each year, selected and converted into raw materials for BERNECK® products. BERNECK® protects an area of approximately 44,000 hectares (440 square kilometers -- 7.5 times the size of Manhattan) in the states of Parana, Santa Catarina, and Mato Grosso.
Planting with native forest reserves contributes to the control of soil erosion and soil quality, biodiversity conservation and regulation of the hydrological cycle, which must reduce the impact of global climate change.
The company also carries out a number of initiatives aimed at protecting the environment, such as sustainable forest management, sewage treatment, pollution control, solid and liquid waste management, permanent environmental education activities and minimal forest cultivation, among others.
BERNECK® maintains over 90,000 hectares of forest nurturing land, including 820,000 hectares of pine in the states of Parana and Santa Catarina and 8,000 hectares of Mato Grosso teak. All wood processed and marketed through BERNECK® comes from plantation forests, avoiding the exploitation of native forests and guaranteeing field employment and income for many families. Our sustainable forest management practices ensure the rational use of natural resources for the long-term production of raw materials to supply our factories. Protecting springs and restoring riparian forests is part of the BERNECK® Forestry Program.
FSC® certification
BERNECK® is certified by the FSC(Forest Stewardship Council®-FSC-C115987), which recognizes the highest level of forest management to ensure that its customers and consumers of wood products manage forests in an environmentally responsible, socially beneficial and economically sustainable manner.
Renewable energy
In the Araucaria and Curitibanos industrial units, residues from the production process (i.e. pine bark and wood chips from the grading, grinding and sanding process) will be discarded in the environment to generate heat and steam by burning biomass. This clean and renewable energy is equivalent to about 50 per cent of the energy used in industrial processes, saving natural resources and reducing production costs. Some of the waste comes from other industries.
In the process of replanting the forest, BERNECK® uses the safest cultivation method and does not use fire to burn the area. Industrial water Capture rainwater entirely for use in industrial processes.
Recovery plan
All solid single-use products (e.g. paper, plastics, ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, light bulbs, batteries, etc.) are collected and stored under internal control and are intended for recycling by companies registered and licensed by the EPA.
Wastewater Treatment Plant (ETE) - Used to treat liquid organic waste. Chemical treatment - neutralization and reuse of internal;
